    Re: Microsoft Cert

Work in a small company, therefore has limited opportunity to "utilise" all the new technologies features, by jumping on the certification bandwagon, it allows me to get my hand dirty :) and stop being lazy.

    Re: Microsoft Cert

The preparation process has helped me a lot. Eye opener to how things could be, especially on matters related to design and best practices. Just make me think more....

So far, they have been quite helpful in aligning my knowledge. Most of the time in the field, I just learn whatever that is needed to do the job leaving some pockets of unknown in a particular subject. The certifications make me cover those areas I missed although not in-depth but atleast it introduces me to the features I missed out.

The certification also gives me confidence in my deliverables.

For me, I would said I can learn new thing or some thing that you haven't learned in your job sometimes during the preparation. Quite helpful also. But, about salary side, maybe we should listen to other senior's comment.

    Re: Microsoft Cert

IMO, its kind of like a "Chicken and Egg" story.

I think certifications are necessary and would be helpful. It broadens ones knowledge as well as it gives you the extra "edge" when it come to the employer making a selection for a candidate. Then again, its also hard to imagine someone with a certification, but has not enough experience. I think, in order to fully utilise a certification, there should be a stringent qualification process prior to taking the actual courses. This will ensure that the person taking the certification has enough experience and knowledge before taking it. This will in turn, make the certification more creditable, prestige and valuable.
