The Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP?

Let's start a new interesting topic of discussion. I own both the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP so I will give my personal opinion on both of them. As much as I enjoy playing Monster Hunter and Kingdom of Paradise on the PSP for their gorgeous graphics, I still find myself spending more time on the DS with Final Fantasy III and Brain Age. For me, the DS is much more portable as it fits into my pocket (well barely but better than the PSP) and the battery lasts much longer. The stylus on the DS also allows for more creative gameplay that is perfect when I am on the go. What do you guys think?

Recently, there are two Nintendo DS luring for gamers in my office. Yup, two persons bought it, and that make things quite interesting! Dragonball Z  deathmatch during lunch break, lots of screamers.

Needless to mention, the nice Nintendo Dog game. That's a really creative game with human touch. Can't stop playing that...

Re: The Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP?

Are they playing with the DS or DS Lite? I was thinking to buy 1 some time ago, but after Wei Min showed it to me ... I was not so sure you know. Games are good just is it worth to buy?

That amount of money spend on DS can actually buy a XBOX 360 (you need to add more money for sure).

But I do agree that Nintendo DS games are more interesting than PSP. But I really like the tennis game for PSP. It rocks :)

Call me a Nintendo fanboy but I have always liked the way Nintendo is tackling the whole video game business. Give me a DS (or DS Lite) over a PSP any day. :D

Wen Ching, I own a DS Lite and not a DS. :) Yes, it is definitely worth getting if you are the type of person who travels a lot and want to keep yourself entertained while idling away time - like before a business meeting. Yay! Now you can show up early without worrying about the other person showing up late. And Brain Age keeps your mind sharp too when the person arrives. *LOL* My favorite game on the DS is still Final Fantasy III (English version) though. There aren't that many copies going around and people are clamouring to get it. I got mine by ordering it from the official Nintendo booth at Jusco, Mid Valley. While I was there, I heard a few other people asking about it but unfortunately, a restock isn't expected until the first quarter of next year. The Nintendo guy told me that the demand for Final Fantasy III has pushed up the price for it at Imbi to over RM200. I got mine for RM179.

    Hi mcghost,

You can try the Digital Mall next to Jaya Supermarket in PJ. I hear that the DS should be around RM400 there. However, if you want, you can support the original Nintendo store at Jusco, Midvalley Megamall which sells it for RM699. As for the PSP, you can try the shop to the left entrance of the computer section of the top floor of Sunway Pyramid. It is the only store that shows price tags at the lowest possible price they can sell the PSP for around RM730 the last time I checked. The other shops there all have price tags RM100 higher and bargaining will only bring you to the lowest price of the first shop. Good luck!

Just a heads up on another official Nintendo store at AEON Cheras Selatan, which coincidentally also located in Jusco, at the home electronic section (where they have all the LCD screens). So, check it out if you're closer to there than MidValley.

Re: The Nintendo DS or the Sony PSP?

Here's an update. Gamers Hideout at Ceineleisure is selling the SuperCard which allows you to upload homebrew (games you develop yourself with the DS SDK which you can find online) games to the DS. You can find out more about the SuperCard here: http://eng.supercard.cn/ Unlike the R4 DS which is mainly for playing DS ROMs, the SuperCard allows you to run homebrew applications and should be a draw for hobbyist developers.

Coincidentally, I noticed that you can buy a MicroSD card for the SuperCard from Digital Mall (near Jaya Supermarket in Petaling Jaya). The 1GB Scandisk MicroSD is going for about RM56 while the 1GB Kingston one i going for about about RM48 at the Computer superstore (forgot its name) on the top floor of the Digital Mall. It's funny because the stores downstairs at the Digital Mall itself and also most other stores in Petaling Jaya are selling the 1GB MicroSD cards for above RM100. Apparently, those are the older stock. The prices for MicroSDs have dropped drastically.
