Thanks for your honest feedback. Not really a nightmare :)
I believe everyone has its own goals when come to community. So passion is really hard to measure :) There are boundaries in making a person to contribute.
One good case study to elaborate further...
I am seriously considering at (part of the MIND transformation) is selling/justifying the value proposition to an individual who works in a software vendor company (ISV, Consultancy, SI, support, etc) to join MIND. As you know each developer who participate in MIND community could be competitors. These developers would rather contribute internally in the company to succeed. There are some cases where their bosses are not happy for them to blog/contribute in forum. How I know? I had spoken to many developers who were MIND members and non MIND members. Plus I faced similar issues back then during my earlier jobs. It was de-motivating.
In order to unlock this mystery door, I need to find out the right mechanism to make it happen. It will take time but it is worth it :)
I respect your decision to keep the T-Shirt for later use in the coming activity :) Thanks. There will be an interesting session in November. I have a speaker from France coming down :)
In terms of ideas, thanks for volunteering. I will put on halt for that first. Let me refine the basic foundation which is the processes within MIND first. I don't really have a proper process for speakers and freebies inventory. Furthermore, I need to plan out a good platform for ideas contribution too. It is not really a technology thing :)
I can ensure you that during the transformation process (5 people including myself part of MIND Thinktank - people from various industry: Financial, Marketing, Sales, Management and Technology); we have listed down potential case studies and the solutions to each of them. The transformation started on July 2008 and will end by November 2008. So 2009 will be an interesting year for MIND.
