Design Patterns Round Table - Round 2, anyone?

    Hi,

First of all, I wish to thank the committee for organizing the Design Patterns Round Table yesterday. Specifically, I wish to thank Wen Ching for inviting me to be part of the panel, but too bad I had to turn it down because something else came up and I could not confirm if I would make it to the event. My apologies to Wen Ching.

Nevertheless, it was a good and interactive session. I think we should consider having follow up sessions (round table) on the topic, and I have some suggestions for the organizing committee to ponder:

    1. Have the round table in the auditorium instead. We'll have access to the AV system there, and we still can have the whiteboard as well.
    2. Perhaps we can focus a little more on how to implement the patterns thru code demos etc.
    3. For code demo, use a laptop and projector instead.
      1. In that way, the panel can prepare the materials (code, diagrams etc) in advance. The audience can do the same as well -- when someone from the floor has something to share, probably he could just walk to the front and load his code / materials on the PC and show them.
      2. There is no need to waste time scribbling code on the board, and the code would be much more readable - imagine mono-colored code vs clear, color-coded source -- take your pick ;)
      3. If the code (snippet) is fully functional, we can even compile it to see it in action.
      4. For non .Net code, fret not. Compilers for languages like Java are free, and there's text editors like UltraEdit that has color coded display ;)

Re: Design Patterns Round Table - Round 2, anyone?

    Thanks for the feedback.

I am not sure we going to have the 2nd one. But I am planning to have round tables that focus not only on development but other industry as well like Designer, Project Management, Support, etc.

Maybe part 2 somewhere end of this year.

The reason why we planned to have it outside as it was more casual and relaxing. :)

I see. Having it outside is not a bad idea actually, but perhaps we can consider complementing the good old white board with a laptop and mobile projector .. What do you think?

Thanks for the inputs. I will discuss with my team on that.

    Hope you like the books.

Lastly, I just want to thanks to Microsoft and O'Reilly for sponsoring the goodies for this event. :)

Sure thing buddy, the book is a good one, I am sure I will find it useful :) Hopefully the future round tables will be even better. If you need any help, let me know. I'll see what I can do :) Cheers.
