Re: Lego Mindstorm NXT - Where to buy?

Actually, I visited the Lego Education distributor today, and they showed me an NXT education pack. Almost bought it, but a little too expensive....

The NXT Education pack goes for about $1850 retail (havent bargain yet). But comes with no software (another $360) and needs an adapter to charge the litium Ion Battery ($90)

If anyone interested, please let me know. I try to purchase bulk and get discount.

If not, I may just purchase from eBay US. I got quotes, for about $230 USD + shipping of about $80 USD....

NO software? Gheeezzzz... I guess it really is just enough parts to run a classroom. eBay? No thanks also I don't really trust eBay sellers for something that'd costs so much. I guess I'll wait. :P

If you guys can wait, end of September will have the NXT retail kit in Malaysia, retailing at 1399.

I get the edu kit, because got the Lithium Ion battery and charger, which is not cheap if buy seperately. The Battery + Charger is about $73 USD.

Erm, regarding the education kit at RM 1700... does it contain everything you need to start building robots? How's it different from the retail kit?

Re: Lego Mindstorm NXT - Where to buy?

Well, I was saving for a Seiko Kinetik watch :) or a Canon EFS 18-85 IS lens.... or a new Mobile, Sony Ericsson K800i.... but look what a BIG BOY I am... got the Lego set instead...

It is way cool but F$%#king cool but $$$$ expensive....

Will setup a forum soon, so Mindstorms owners can discuss about their Lego stuff.

If you are still looking for a unit, PM me. I know where you can get one TODAY.

If not, schedule date out is end Sept at $1399 for retail kit. Should be at Isetan KLCC and Jusco Midvalley.

    Good Luck

    Eric

Re: Lego Mindstorm NXT - Where to buy?

You can check the Retail kit here => http://shop.lego.com/product.asp?p=8527

and the Edu Kit here => http://www.legoeducation.com/store/detail.aspx?by=6&pl=10&ID=1263

Many say the Edu kit is better, has got a few more stuff, but has less Lego (plastic) pieces

Edu kit got Rechargeble battery, which is the most useful item, but it cost more, because it doesnt come with the "power adapter" and Software, thus the heavier price. Edu kit got special cable to connect with the original Mindstorm RCX sensors. And the software that you purchase, can access the old RCX sensors, not so with retail software.

Retail kit, if you can wait should be out end Sept, at $1399 which is more affordable.

    Good luck

Get the retail in 2 weeks, and we could try have some gathering or something. Try to have some friendly games/competition.

Re: Lego Mindstorm NXT - Where to buy?

Hi Eric. I did dropped you a message regarding on this. Can you check your forum inbox?

We can have a workshop/games/competition on Lego Mindstorm, but why not build some awareness first? Not all know how to program a robot.

I had tried to ask sponsors from retailers who sold Lego. But it seemed to fail. If there is a lot of passion in robotics from this community (forum, monthly activities), I will try to email Lego directly.

Eric, are you interested to help?

Re: Lego Mindstorm NXT - Where to buy?

I have no problems helping out. Awareness, I guess it takes time to build, specially on very niche items like the Mindstorm.

Yes, the programming is not an easy task (even with a Comp Sci Degree :P ), but Lego is exactly what we need. It allows us to explore our creativity... endless possibilities...

Sponsors arr, maybe you leave it with me. Let us organise a few gatherings first. Maybe we could meet at someone's house, or McDonalds or something. Organise some games/competition. With photographs and numbers of regular attendies, we could be at a better position to negotiate.

We could even contact some local magazine, or In-tech and let them know about these gatherings (once we have about 10-15 regular attendies). If we could get on In-tech, I am very sure that the "exposure" would be priceless :P

    Good luck

    Eric
