artistry.

The lead programmer for the Beautiful Code website is Michael Feathers, a popular author and expert in Agile Programming who contributed the
chapter "Framework for Integrated Test: Beauty through Fragility."

In a recent post, Feathers writes: "When I was a younger programmer, I felt guilty about being a neat-freak. It was a selective obsession.
There I was, sitting in my office with stacks of papers and books covering every available space, but I was oblivious to it. As long as
my code looked great, I could shut out the chaos around me: the towering stacks of dead tree that could've toppled and crushed me if I had
sneezed."

Feathers continues, "I don't know why I felt bad about being that way, but in retrospect, I think that I felt that I was wasting time caring
about neatness in code. It took me a couple of years to figure out that the ergonomics of code matter, and that the time you spend decluttering
your code can declutter your thoughts as well."

The O'Reilly School of Technology has officially opened its virtual
doors with educational offerings for students looking to further or
launch their IT careers, whether they aspire to become alpha geeks or
not. The school is a unique partnership between O'Reilly Media and the
University of Illinois.

Students can earn a Certificate for Professional Development from the
University of Illinois Office of Continuing Education upon completion
of

To celebrate the tools that make Windows developers' lives easier–and the people who’ve created them–we’re unilaterally declaring Friday, January 19th to be "Windows Developer Tools Day." It’s an ad hoc and
spontaneous effort on our part to draw attention to the growing number of free and open source software (FOSS) tools that support developers who do their work on the Windows platforms.

We chose the date to coincide with the final day of CodeMash, a high-energy gathering of developers taking place in Sandusky, Ohio this week. We’re also launching a new title, "Windows Developer Power
Tools," by Jim Holmes and James Avery, which documents more than 170 of the FOSS tools available today for Windows.
